Enter a positive amount or zero, with up to 2 decimal places.

7.5% is an example. Enter the rate that applies to your transaction. Changing currency changes the display, not an exchange rate.

Here’s the full picture.

Total including VAT

₦10,750.00

₦10,000.00 + 7.5% VAT

Price before VAT₦10,000.00

VAT (7.5%)₦750.00

Total including VAT₦10,750.00

Amounts round to 2 decimal places. Price + VAT always equals the displayed total.

Understand the numbers

One rate. Two useful calculations.

VAT is added to the price before tax. If you already have a VAT-inclusive total, removing VAT means dividing by the VAT multiplier, rather than subtracting the percentage directly.

A

Add VAT to a price

VAT = price × rate ÷ 100
Total = price + VAT

Example: 10,000 at 7.5% gives 750 VAT and a total of 10,750.

B

Remove VAT from a total

Price = total ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100)
VAT = total − price

Example: 10,750 including 7.5% VAT gives an original price of 10,000.

A few quick answers

Can I use a different VAT rate?

Yes. Enter any rate from 0% to 100%, with up to 4 decimal places. The example rate is not selected from your country or currency.

Why shouldn’t I subtract 7.5% from a VAT-inclusive total?

The VAT percentage applies to the price before tax. Divide the total by 1.075 to recover the original price at 7.5%, then subtract that price from the total to find the VAT.

How are decimal amounts rounded?

When adding VAT, the tax amount rounds to the nearest smallest currency unit, then adds to the original price. When removing VAT, the original price rounds first and VAT is the difference from the entered total. Half-unit ties round upward.
